Okay, so I just finished Among Us and I gotta be honest, I went in expecting it to be kind of a cash grab based on the game. Like, how do you even turn that into a show? But this thing actually works. It’s funny, it’s got mystery, and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. The 7.8 rating on TMDB seems about right. It’s not breaking new ground or anything, but if you want something that’s entertaining and doesn’t require a ton of brain power, this does the job.
Season 1
So season one is only 10 episodes, which honestly is perfect for this kind of show. It doesn’t overstay its welcome. The premise is pretty straightforward: you’ve got this crew on a ship called The Skeld that’s hauling junk through space. They’re weird. Like, genuinely weird characters. And then an Impostor shows up and starts killing people off, and the crew has to figure out who it is before everyone’s dead.
The first episode is a solid setup. We get introduced to two new crew members getting the tour of the ship, and of course disaster strikes immediately. It’s got that classic animated comedy vibe where the tone is light even when bad things are happening. The writing leans into absurdity, which is exactly what you want here.
Episodes 2 and 3 are where things pick up. There’s a body found and the crew has to actually deal with it. The “Hot Doctor” character is genuinely funny, and the emergency meeting scene in episode 3 is probably the highlight of what I’ve seen so far. That’s when the crew realizes something is seriously wrong and the actual mystery kicks in.
The cast is great. Randall Park carries a lot of the comedy, and Yvette Nicole Brown has some of the best reactions. Kimiko Glenn and Liv Hewson are solid too. Ashley Johnson is in there as well, and everyone just has good chemistry. There’s that feeling where you can tell these actors are having fun with it.
The animation style is clean and matches what you’d expect if the game got animated. Nothing fancy, but it works. The show doesn’t try to be too cool or hip about the whole thing, which I appreciated.
My only real complaint about the first season is that it feels like it ends right when things are getting interesting. Like, they’re setting up mysteries that clearly aren’t going to get resolved in these 10 episodes. It makes sense for a returning series, but it does leave you wanting more answers. That’s probably the point though.
Is this the kind of show you’ll want to rewatch? Probably not. But is it fun to watch while it’s happening? Absolutely. Have you watched it yet, or are you thinking about jumping in?
