I went into Filing for Love expecting a typical K-drama office romance, and honestly? It’s so much better than that. This show grabbed me from episode one and didn’t let go. The 8.5 rating on TMDB isn’t inflated hype. It’s the real deal.
What makes this work is that it’s not trying to be something it’s not. It’s a comedy first, which sounds obvious, but so many dramas forget how to be funny while being dramatic. This one nails both.
Season 1
The setup is solid. Joo In-ah is the new director of the audit department, and she’s sharp, charming, and clearly hiding something big. Then she demotes Noh Ki-joon, the department’s best investigator, which seems cruel until you realize there’s more going on beneath the surface. The first episode does everything right. It introduces both characters with personality, establishes the world, and makes you want to know more.
Episode two kicks things up when Ki-joon’s first case goes sideways into a full raid. Things get messy fast, and you can already feel the tension building between these two. Episode three is where it gets interesting. Ki-joon finds evidence and starts planning revenge against In-ah, which should make them enemies. Except the show’s smart enough to know that’s way more fun if there’s chemistry underneath it.
The middle episodes are where the show really finds its groove. The cases they’re working on are engaging without overshadowing the relationship stuff. There’s a good balance between the procedural elements and the character development. You care about what they’re investigating, but you’re really there to watch In-ah and Ki-joon circle around each other.
The romance doesn’t feel forced, which is huge. A lot of shows will throw two characters together and expect you to buy it because they’re attractive and the script says they should fall in love. This one earns it. You watch them understand each other piece by piece. You see why they work.
Shin Hae-sun plays In-ah with this perfect balance of strength and vulnerability. She’s in control until she isn’t, and those moments where her armor cracks are everything. Gong Myoung’s Ki-joon could’ve been a one-note vengeful guy, but he brings humor and depth to the role. The chemistry between them is why the show works. They feel like real people who are slowly realizing they’re falling for each other.
The supporting cast does solid work too. Kim Jae-uck, Hong Hwa-yeon, and Kang Sang-jun don’t get as much screen time, but they’re used well. They feel like actual coworkers, not just background noise.
The final episodes bring everything together in a way that feels earned. There are real stakes, real conflict, and by the end you’re invested in whether these two actually make it. The show doesn’t resolve everything neatly, which is smart. It leaves you wanting season two.
If you’re tired of K-dramas that drag out their premise for 16 episodes, this one moves. It’s 12 episodes of tight storytelling. No filler. No random side plots that go nowhere. Just a really solid show about two people who are good at their jobs slowly falling for each other while dealing with actual problems at work.
The only minor complaint I have is that I wanted more from some of the cases they investigated. Some feel like they wrap up a little too quick. But honestly, that’s because the show is confident enough to prioritize the relationship over procedural details, which is the right call.
If you’re looking for something to watch right now, Filing for Love is worth your time. It’s funny, it’s got heart, and it makes you want to binge it all in one sitting. Have you watched it yet, or are you still deciding if it’s worth the commitment?
