I just finished FROM and honestly, I’m kind of obsessed with it. This show has no right being this good. I went in expecting a middling sci-fi mystery that would peter out by season two, but four seasons in and I’m still genuinely invested in what’s happening in this weird trapped town. It’s not perfect, but it’s the kind of show that makes you stay up way too late yelling at your TV.
The premise is simple enough that it hooks you immediately. People get trapped in a town. There’s no way out. Monsters come at night. The town gets progressively weirder. But FROM actually respects its audience enough to keep raising the stakes instead of just spinning its wheels with the same scares over and over again.
Season 1
The first season is where the show grabs you by the throat. The Matthews family gets detoured into this normal looking town and quickly realizes nothing is normal about it. There are already residents there, people who’ve been stuck for a while, and they’re not thrilled about new arrivals.
The early episodes nail the horror of the situation. You’ve got families torn apart, people going crazy from being trapped, and those creatures in the forest that are genuinely terrifying when you first see them. The town itself becomes a character. It’s pretty and small and totally wrong all at once.
What works best here is that the show doesn’t explain anything. You’re as confused as the Matthews family. The mystery is real because nobody, including the audience, knows what the hell is going on. By the end of season one, you’re hooked because you need answers.
My only complaint is that some of the character introductions feel a little rushed. There are a lot of people to keep track of. But the show knows who the main players are, and it sticks with them.
Season 2
Season two brings new people to town, which could have been annoying but actually works really well. The chaos of newcomers arriving forces the established residents to question their own survival strategies. Things fall apart. Trust breaks down. It’s tense as hell.
This is where the show starts to hint at bigger mysteries. There are rules to this place. Weird rules. The town isn’t random, it’s designed. Someone or something is running this thing. The Man in Yellow shows up and immediately becomes the most unsettling part of the show.
The problem with season two is that the pacing gets wonky. Some episodes drag. There are side plots that don’t go anywhere. But the core mystery deepens enough to keep you watching. And Harold Perrineau as Boyd really steps up here. He becomes the heart of the show, trying to hold everything together while the town literally falls apart.
Season 3
Season three is where the show gets darker. Winter comes. Food runs out. People are starving and scared and starting to turn on each other. This is the season where you realize this isn’t just about monsters. It’s about what people become when they’re desperate.
The survival aspect feels real here. There’s actual threat in every decision. Do you risk going into the forest for food? Do you trust the newcomers? How long before someone does something terrible just to stay alive?
Honestly, this is probably my least favorite season. It’s good, but it’s also kind of bleak without much payoff. You’re watching people suffer and the mysteries don’t really advance as much as they should. It feels like a holding pattern before the big reveals. Some of the character moments are strong, but the overall pacing feels slower than the previous seasons.
Season 4
Season four is where it gets real. The answers start coming. The Man in Yellow’s deal becomes clear. Jade and Tabitha get a major revelation that changes everything. This season justifies all the slow burns from season three.
I don’t want to spoil anything, but the mythology of the show is actually kind of insane. It’s not what you’d expect. The show commits to its weirdness and doesn’t cop out with a boring explanation.
The final season also uses its characters better. Everyone has a purpose. The arcs that started in season one start paying off. Perrineau is incredible. Catalina Sandino Moreno as Tabitha carries so much of this season on her shoulders and nails it.
There are still some problems. The show sometimes prioritizes mystery over logic. Some plot points feel convenient. But it works because you’re too invested to care.
At this point, I’m genuinely curious where the show goes from here. Season four ends with questions answered but new ones raised. The show earned my trust by actually committing to its mystery instead of dragging it out forever. If you like sci-fi shows that aren’t afraid to get weird, shows like LOST or The OA, this is absolutely worth your time. Are you more of a person who needs answers right away, or can you hang with a show that takes its time building mystery?
