Good Omens is one of those shows that lives up to the hype, which honestly surprised me. I went in expecting it to be good but maybe overpraised by the internet, and instead I found myself completely hooked. It’s funny, weird, and genuinely heartfelt in a way that shouldn’t work but absolutely does. If you like fantasy that doesn’t take itself too seriously, you need to watch this.

Season 1

The first season is basically perfect. It sets up this wild premise: an angel and a demon have been stationed on Earth for thousands of years, and they’ve become friends. Now the apocalypse is actually happening, but they don’t want it to because they like Earth and their life together. So they team up to find the Antichrist before he can bring about the end times.

The show jumps around in time a lot, showing how Aziraphale and Crowley met throughout history. Some of these flashbacks are hilarious. Watching them constantly run into each other across centuries and slowly warm up to each other is charming as hell. The present-day plot in the first season is tight and moves fast without feeling rushed. By the end of the six episodes, everything wraps up in a satisfying way that also leaves room for more.

Michael Sheen and David Tennant are the heart of this whole thing. Sheen plays Aziraphale as this fussy, sweet angel who actually cares about humanity. Tennant’s Crowley is cooler, more detached, but clearly deeply invested in Aziraphale. Their dynamic is what makes you keep watching. The chemistry between them feels real, and you genuinely want them to succeed.

Season 2

Season 2 takes a while to get going. Instead of jumping straight into a big plot, it spends time dealing with fallout from the first season. A mysterious angel shows up with no memory, and Aziraphale and Crowley have to figure out what’s happening while Heaven and Hell are breathing down their necks.

The problem is that this season feels slower. There are minisodes mixed in that are cute but also kind of feel like filler when you’re trying to binge the main story. The central mystery of who this angel is and what’s going on takes forever to unfold. I found myself getting impatient in the middle episodes.

That said, the character stuff is still great. We get more time with Aziraphale and Crowley just existing together, which is nice. Some of the side characters get development too. But honestly, season 2 doesn’t hit quite as hard as the first one. It’s still good, but it feels like the show is spinning its wheels a little bit before getting to the actual conflict.

Season 3

And then season 3 shows up. One episode. That’s it. I’m not going to spoil what happens, but I will say it’s a choice. The final episode tries to wrap everything up while also being dramatic and emotional, but one episode for a whole season feels cheap. You spend time with these characters, and then suddenly everything moves really fast and the show ends before you’re ready.

Without spoiling anything, the ending makes sense for the characters, but the execution feels rushed. It feels like the show either needed two or three more episodes to breathe, or they should have known where the story was going and paced things differently in season 2. As it stands, season 3 is more of a brief epilogue than an actual season.

Look, I still loved this show overall. If you’re on the fence about starting it, go ahead and watch it. The first season alone is worth your time. Sheen and Tennant are so good together that even when the plot is spinning its wheels, you’re still entertained. Just go in knowing that the ending might not hit as hard as you want it to, and that’s okay.

Have you watched Good Omens yet, or are you thinking about starting it? What did you think of how it wrapped up?
