Okay, so I just finished binging all three seasons of Silo and I need to talk about it because this show absolutely grabbed me in a way I wasn’t expecting. Is it perfect? No. But is it worth your time? Yeah, it really is. This is the kind of sci-fi show that actually makes you think about the world it’s built instead of just throwing explosions at you for ten hours.

The premise alone is wild. Thousands of people living in this massive underground silo because the world above is basically uninhabitable. But nobody really knows why they’re there or how long they’ve been there. There are rules. Strict rules. And when people start breaking them, things get messy fast. Rebecca Ferguson carries this show on her shoulders and honestly, she’s perfect as Juliette. She’s got this determined energy but she also feels real, like she’s constantly stressed and confused and trying to figure things out on the fly.

Season 1

Season 1 is the strongest season of the bunch, and I think that’s because everything is still new and mysterious. We start with a death that doesn’t add up. The sheriff dies under weird circumstances. People are asking questions they’re not supposed to ask. And Juliette, this engineer who just wants to fix things, gets pulled into investigating what really happened.

What works here is the pacing. They don’t dump everything on you at once. You slowly start to realize that there are people in power who don’t want certain truths coming out. Bernard, the head of IT, is creepy and controlling. Mayor Jahns seems well-meaning but she’s also kind of helpless. And the world itself feels claustrophobic and oppressive in the best way possible. You feel trapped with these characters.

The mystery of why people cleaning the lens die is genuinely unsettling. When they finally show you what’s actually out there, it’s a gut punch. Season 1 also does a good job of making you care about the side characters. When bad things happen to people you’ve gotten to know, it actually stings. The finale left me desperate to know what comes next.

Season 2

Season 2 is where things get messier, and I mean that in both good and bad ways. Juliette ends up outside the silo with a broken suit, running out of oxygen, and then she stumbles into another silo nearby. This was a huge game changer because suddenly we’re seeing that the world is way bigger and more complicated than we thought.

The problem is that season 2 splits its time between what’s happening with Juliette in the new silo and what’s happening back home, and honestly, the back home stuff is more interesting. Juliette’s arc in Silo 18 is fine but it feels like we’re just repeating the plot of season 1 in a slightly different location. She finds corruption, she questions authority, people don’t like it. We get it.

But the stuff with Bernard trying to maintain control back in the original silo? That’s where the real tension is. Common brings a lot of weight to that character. He’s not just a villain, he’s someone who thinks he’s doing the right thing even when he’s clearly not. The relationship between Juliette and Bernard is the heart of this show and season 2 understands that.

By the end of season 2, things feel bigger and more hopeless at the same time. The reveal that there are multiple silos changes everything about what we thought we knew. It also makes you realize we’re nowhere near the end of this story.

Season 3

Season 3 just started dropping and I’ve watched the first few episodes. They’re mixing in flashbacks to show the origin story of how the silos were built, which is a weird choice but it’s starting to make sense. We’re seeing how humanity got to this point and what the original plan was.

The current timeline stuff is still focused on Juliette trying to survive and figure out what’s real. The mystery is getting bigger. It’s not just about one silo anymore. These decisions made centuries ago are still controlling people’s lives today. The pacing is slower in season 3, which I get, but sometimes I wish things would just move faster. There’s a lot of talking and planning and not enough action.

Harriet Walter is great as Judge Meadows though. She brings this weight and authority that makes every scene she’s in feel important. The cast in general is solid. Nobody is giving a bad performance, which is half the battle in a show like this.

If I’m being honest, Silo isn’t the most original concept out there. Dystopian underground society? We’ve seen that. But what sets this show apart is that it actually respects your intelligence. It doesn’t spell everything out for you. It trusts you to piece things together. The acting is strong. The production design makes those silos feel real and lived in. And the mystery actually keeps you guessing.

Is it for everyone? No. If you need constant action and explosions, this might feel slow. But if you like mystery and world building and watching smart characters navigate impossible situations, then yeah, give it a shot. I’m curious where this thing is headed next. Have you started watching Silo yet, or are you on the fence about it?
