I just finished binging both seasons of “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” and honestly? It’s way better than I expected. I went in thinking it might be another generic teen mystery show, but it actually grabbed me and didn’t let go. There’s something about Pip’s determination to solve these cases that makes you want to follow her down the rabbit hole too. Is it perfect? No. But it’s the kind of show that makes you want to text your friends about it at 2 AM, and those are the best kind.

Season 1

Season 1 sets up the core mystery that hooks you from the jump. Andie Bell disappeared five years ago, and everyone in town believes her boyfriend Sal Singh killed her before taking his own life. Case closed. Except Pip doesn’t buy it, and honestly, neither do you by episode two.

What works here is that the show doesn’t drag out the mystery. We’re not waiting around for answers. Pip and Ravi actually make progress. They talk to people, they find inconsistencies, they piece things together. It feels like they’re actually investigating instead of just stumbling around hoping something happens. Emma Myers is really good as Pip too. She plays her smart without making her annoying, which is harder than it sounds.

The first season flies by. Six episodes is the perfect length because it doesn’t overstay its welcome. By the time you get to the big reveal, you’re satisfied. The mystery gets solved, the real killer is exposed, and there are actual consequences. I appreciated that they didn’t just wrap everything up neatly and call it a day. Things get messy. People are hurt. Pip has to live with what she’s done.

Season 2

Season 2 picks up after the fallout from season one. Pip just wants to go back to normal, but then Jamie Hastings disappears and suddenly she’s pulled into another investigation. This season is where things get a little wobbly.

Don’t get me wrong, season 2 is still entertaining. But it doesn’t have quite the same momentum as season one. The mystery feels a bit more scattered. There are more red herrings, and not all of them pay off in a satisfying way. Some storylines feel like they’re just spinning their wheels. I also think the show tries to juggle too many plot threads. You’ve got Jamie’s disappearance, Max’s trial, Pip’s complicated feelings about everything that happened, and her relationships with Ravi and her friends. It’s a lot.

That said, the show still keeps you watching. The mystery does eventually come together, and there are some genuinely tense moments. The cast is solid across the board. Zain Iqbal as Ravi brings a lot to the show. He’s not just there to be the love interest. He’s actually involved in the investigation, and their partnership feels real.

My main complaint with season 2 is that it doesn’t feel as tight. There are episodes where not much happens, and then suddenly there’s a bunch of exposition to catch you up. Season 1 was leaner and meaner. Season 2 feels like the show is still figuring out how to tell this story without the original mystery to anchor it.

The ending of season 2 does set things up for more, which makes sense since this is apparently a returning series. I’m curious to see where they go next, though I hope they get back to what made season 1 work so well. The show is best when Pip is closing in on answers, not when she’s running in circles.

Overall, “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” is worth your time. It’s a solid mystery show with good characters and enough twists to keep you interested. Season 1 is genuinely great. Season 2 is good but not great. If you like mysteries and don’t mind some teen drama mixed in, you’ll probably enjoy it. Just know that season 2 is a step down from the first one. Have you watched it yet, or are you thinking about starting it?
