I went into “Murder Mindfully” expecting it to be a one-note joke that wore thin after two episodes. Turns out I was wrong. This show is genuinely fun, weird, and honestly kind of clever in the way it balances dark comedy with actual character development. It’s not perfect, and season 2 is basically nonexistent at this point, but season 1 is absolutely worth your time if you like shows that don’t take themselves too seriously.
The premise sounds like a sketch comedy bit stretched too thin: mafia lawyer Björn goes to mindfulness class and starts using meditation techniques to commit murder without getting caught. But the show actually works because it commits to the bit while still building a real story underneath it all.
Season 1
Season 1 is eight episodes of pure chaos in the best way. Björn starts out as this cynical, burnt-out lawyer who takes a mindfulness class just to get his wife off his back. Then he realizes that all the breathing exercises and being present in the moment actually help him think clearly about… murder. It’s absurd, but it’s played just seriously enough that you buy it.
The first few episodes nail the tone perfectly. “Breathing” introduces us to Björn and his problem. “Happiness” is where things get wild as he actually goes through with something terrible and has to figure out how to not get caught while maintaining his normal routine. “Fear” digs into how paranoid he’s becoming despite his newfound zen.
What really works is that the show doesn’t just make jokes about the premise. It actually explores how Björn’s mindfulness practice is changing him as a person. He’s becoming more in control, more focused, but also more detached. There’s something genuinely unsettling about watching a character get better at life by being more present and aware, knowing that he’s using those skills for murder.
The supporting cast helps a lot too. Björn’s wife is skeptical but kind of oblivious about what’s happening. His colleagues at the law firm are their own kinds of messed up. The mindfulness instructor genuinely cares about helping people, which makes every scene with her kind of tragic and funny at the same time.
By the end of season 1, the show has earned its weirdness. You’re invested in Björn as a character, even though he’s doing terrible things. The writing is sharp. The pacing is good. It never overstays its welcome at eight episodes.
Season 2
Okay, so season 2 is just one episode right now. I’m not even sure if this is the final season or if more is coming. Netflix doesn’t always make that clear with their returning shows.
The one episode we have continues the story, but it feels like they’re still figuring out where the show goes from here. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t have the punch that season 1 did. There’s a sense of things winding down rather than ramping up. I’m hoping there’s more coming because this story has more to tell.
If you’re considering watching “Murder Mindfully,” just know that you’re getting a fun, darkly funny show with a genuinely interesting premise that doesn’t waste your time. Season 1 is solid and worth binging in a weekend. Season 2 is a mystery right now, but I’m still curious where they’re taking this. Have you watched it yet, or are you thinking about starting it?
