Starring: Zerocalcare, Valerio Mastandrea

I just finished “My 2 Cents” and honestly? I’m still thinking about it. This show came out of nowhere for me, but the 8.8 rating on TMDB had me curious, so I binged all eight episodes in like two days. It’s one of those shows that doesn’t try too hard to be funny or deep, but somehow ends up being both at the same time. It’s messy and real and kind of perfect in how imperfect it all is.

The premise is simple enough. Zero’s best friend Wild Boar gets mixed up with some bad people, organized crime bad, and suddenly Zero and his whole friend group are trying to figure out how to help while also just trying to get through their own lives. That’s it. But the way the show handles it, with all the anxiety and panic and terrible decision-making that comes with being a young adult trying to be a good friend, is what makes it work.

Season 1

The first season is only eight episodes, which sounds short until you realize that’s actually the perfect length for this story. The show doesn’t overstay its welcome or drag things out. Each episode moves things forward while also giving us these quiet moments where characters just sit around being stressed about life.

The early episodes set up the problem really well. Wild Boar is being vague about what’s going on, just keeping saying “don’t tell my wife,” which is both funny and depressing because you know this guy is in actual trouble. Zero and his friends are trying to figure out how to help while also dealing with their own stuff. Smeralda moving in adds this awkward layer to everything because now they’re all living in this tiny space while a crisis is happening.

What surprised me was how the show balanced comedy with genuine stakes. It’s not trying to be dark and serious all the time. There are actually funny moments that land because the characters feel real. But then it gets serious pretty fast. By the middle of the season you realize this isn’t just a fun adventure story. These people actually care about each other and they’re actually scared.

The last few episodes get intense. I don’t want to spoil anything but the show doesn’t really have a clean resolution. It ends in a way that feels honest to how these situations actually work. There’s no big heroic moment where everything gets solved perfectly. It’s messier than that. People are still worried, still figuring things out, still dealing with the aftermath.

The Characters

Zerocalcare does most of the heavy lifting here. He’s the main character and he carries the show through his anxiety and his genuine care for his friends. He’s not perfect. He makes bad decisions. He gets frustrated. He says dumb things. But you get why his friends like him and why he cares so much about saving Wild Boar even though it would be easier not to.

Valerio Mastandrea as Wild Boar is great because he’s not just the problem character. You see why he’s in this mess and how much he regrets it. The scenes between him and Zero have this weight to them because they’re old friends dealing with something that tests their friendship.

Smeralda is probably the strongest character arc in the season. Watching her deal with her own life falling apart while also being caught up in Zero’s situation with Wild Boar is where some of the best character work happens. She’s not just a side character. She’s dealing with real stuff.

Is It Worth Your Time?

Yeah, it is. Eight episodes is such a small commitment and the show is good enough that you’ll want to see where it goes. It’s funny without being silly. It’s serious without being depressing. It’s the kind of show that makes you think about your own friendships and how you’d react if your best friend was in trouble.

The only real complaint I have is that I wanted more. Not because the season felt incomplete, but because the world and these characters are interesting enough that I’d watch more of them. But sometimes a show is better when it knows when to stop, and “My 2 Cents” seems to know that.

If you like shows that feel real and grounded but also have humor and heart, this is definitely worth checking out. Have you seen it yet, or is it on your list?
